Playing on paper
The three kinds of paper score card, when to print each, and what to do when the seating changes.
Phone or paper. Same tournament.
What the video says
The paper method and the printouts
Some clubs like the traditional paper method: score cards and pencils at the table, with the rotation, the seeding and the players managed in the app. And not everybody brings a phone. Either way, you can run the whole tournament, with some players on paper, or all of them.
Every printout is under Event Options. Paper score cards takes you straight to the cards, and there are three kinds.
From the rotation prints one card per player, with their table and partner for every round. Hand it out at the door, and they know where to go all tournament.
Are you running a longer tournament? You can print up to 12 rounds on one scorecard, printed two to a page.
Blank cards have no names and no tables. Players fill them in by hand, so you call out the tables each round.
Does only one player need paper? Search their name, and print just their card.
And Table assignments prints every round on one sheet, for the wall.
Scores from paper
You can also mark who’s on paper before you start.
Once an opponent has put in their own score, they can input the paper player’s sheet from their own phone. The same checks apply.
Or you type their scores in from the card. The scoring mode video covers the rules.
When the seating changes
Now say you have to draw the seating again after round 3. The app warns you first: the paper cards will be out of date.
Every phone shows its new table straight away.
A printed card doesn’t. It still says where they were going to sit.
So print them a new card. With the scores so far keeps the rounds they’ve played, with their scores, and gives them their new tables for the rest. One press from Playing on paper, and only their cards.
And if the rotation is drawn again in the middle of the tournament, and there’s no printer for new cards? You tell them. Open Playing on paper, and it lists where each paper player sits for every round that’s left: the table, and who their partner is. Read it out between rounds.
And if you have a TV, put the big screen up. It shows every table for the round, and if you choose to put it up, everybody can see the scores as well.
What if you don’t have a TV? You can also show it on the admin’s laptop.
Which printout, and when
So, which printout should you use, and when?
From the rotation, before you start.
Blank, if they’ll fill it in by hand.
With the scores so far, whenever the seating changes.
And no printer? Just tell them where to sit.
Whether you use a phone or paper, everybody plays the same tournament.
