Running a tournament on paper scorecards
How the app seats the room and the rotation while every player keeps score on paper.
Phones or paper scorecards. Same tournament.
What the video says
Everybody on paper
Are you using paper scorecards? Everyone is welcome.
Not every room wants phones on the table. Some clubs like their pencils and score cards, and that’s fine. Let the app do the hard part: who sits where, and who plays with who.
Every player is on the club’s roster, account or not. Their phone just stays in their pocket. In setup, tick that players are tracking scores on paper.
Then, before you start, mark who they are: a few of them, or Everybody is on paper, in one press.
The rotation and the seating
Press Start, and the app draws the whole rotation: every table, every partner, every round, keeping partners from repeating.
Print a score card for each player,
And a sheet for the wall. The Playing on paper video shows every printout.
Then open Live Tournament Management, and press Send the seating to phones.
Do you know where you sit next? Scan the code.
Pick your name, and it shows your table for this round and every round after it. No sign-in, and no app to download.
Put the code up at the front table, or on the big screen.
What if somebody has to leave early? Press A Player has left, in Live Tournament Management. The rounds you’ve played stay, and the rest are drawn again.
The paper cards won’t know, but the QR code does. Or read the new seats out from Playing on paper.
Only if you want it
That’s a whole tournament on paper. Everything from here is optional.
Want the standings and the stats? Type the scores in from the cards. Do it between rounds, or all at once after the tournament.
The app lists every card still to put in. Once they’re all in, finish the tournament, and the winners, the standings and everybody’s record are done for you.
Seating each round by the standings, like leaders play leaders? Then type the scores in as each round ends. The app needs them to know who’s leading before it seats the next round.
Are you collecting money at the door? Mark who’s paid as they check in.
The app works out the prizes, and keeps the club’s books. Or leave it off, and keep using the cash box.
And if you have a TV, put the big screen up. Everybody sees their table for the round, and when you’ve put the scores in, the standings too.
Who does what
So, who does what?
The app does the seating and the rotation. You hand out the cards.
It makes a code for every seat. You put it up.
Somebody leaves? Press A Player has left.
And the scores, the money and the big screen? Only if you want them.
Phones or paper scorecards, it’s the same tournament.
