Paper, spreadsheet or app: the best way to score a euchre tournament

There's more than one good way to run a euchre tournament. The right one depends on how big it is and how often you play.

When paper is the right choice

Paper suits a one-off game with a few tables, especially in a room with poor reception or with players who'd rather not use a phone. It never crashes, and everyone understands it. The cost is the adding up, because one wrong total can change who wins. Our free score sheets and rotation charts have you covered.

When a spreadsheet is the right choice

A spreadsheet suits someone who already likes spreadsheets and wants totals done automatically. It works well for one tournament, but it depends on one person at one laptop. Season standings take real work, and a broken formula is hard to spot in the middle of a tournament.

When an app is the right choice

An app makes the most sense once you have many tables, play regularly or handle prize money. Players score from their phones, nobody waits for totals, and the record builds up from one tournament to the next. Before you choose one, ask:

  • Does it run the whole tournament, or only keep score?
  • What happens if a player has no phone?
  • What happens when someone leaves in round four?
  • Does it catch a score that can't be right?
  • Does it handle the money and keep stats across a season?
  • What does it cost for your size of club?

How Euchre Clubhouse answers those

It runs the rotation, scoring, prize money and season standings. Its hybrid mode puts phones and paper in the same tournament, with the big screen and QR codes, and an opponent can input a paper player's score. When someone leaves, it redraws the remaining rounds.
